Wes Fitness Challenge – Week One

Week One of the Undies 101 Fitness Challenge is behind us and it’s time to share the knowledge gained about fitness and ourselves.  If nothing else through this venture, we should gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to make us tick, both mentally and physically.

This past week, we were assigned two circuits of activity which were pushups and squats and then planks, side planks, and bicycle kicks.  To be totally honest, I’ve only done the pushups.  I tend to do pushups just for the hell of it.  Every now and then, I will just get on the floor and pump out a few.  When I was in much better shape in 2011, I was doing pushups multiple times a day whenever the feeling hit.

Here, however, is the fly in the tea kettle.  When I do arm exercises with weight being pushed upward, such as pushups, my elbows pop loudly.  It’s strange that this does not happen when I do bench presses, but I’m glad as it isn’t the best feeling thing.  It reminds me of a clutch in a stick shift.  There’s a “sweet spot” where it catches and you feel the difference.  I’m sure there is an elbow band or something that would help with the issue.

This past week also saw the beginning of the 2013 tax preparation season.  During tax season, I work part time at a local tax office.  I work from around 8am to 4:30pm and then find my way through Atlanta suburb traffic to get to the second job.  I have to change my thought process, but I haven’t felt like going to the gym any evening after work.  I have to get myself in there and get motivated because in a few weeks, I will be working till 9pm and the gym closes at ten.  I won’t be able to get a workout in before it closes.  The answer to that: wake up and go before work.  Enters evil demonic bitch into the gym!  LOL.

The upcoming week begins a closer look at what we put into our bodies.  I rarely eat as I should.  A workout program I did in the past had me eating six times a day.  I loved the way my body began to look and I felt energized.  Certainly, my metabolism had increased and I saw my abs for the first time in my life.

That’s one of my goals and I hope I accomplish it.
