when you know you’re a NYC’er…

not many folks that live in NYC are actually from NYC…so that begs the question…how do you know you’re a NYC’er? Is it when people start asking you for directions in the subway? Probably not, if you look convincing enough, you can get asked for directions on the subway in your first few days. Is it when you get your first place? Not really. My test for when you’re a NYC’er is when you experience an event that happens here with your fellow NYC’ers. Mine was 9/11 – it was my first major event that happened here in the city that I went through with all of my other fellow NYC’ers. Weeks of confusion, dust, disrupted subways, National Guardsmen with machine guns on the trains…etc. Then there are Blizzards that are memorabel…the Great Blackout of 2003…the mass transit/subway strike of 2005…all of them…events that were unique to NYC and threw a curve ball into life here. When you live through those types of events you get to bond with your fellow man…that’s when you become a NYC’er. To those of you new to the city…you’re earning your stripes this weekend and congrats on becoming a NYC’er! It happens to some of us quicker than others!
