I, like Matty, am having issues posting pics to my twitter account and have yet to figure out what the dilemna is. My problem isn’t that I post them and they disappear, my problem is that there have been days when I can’t seem to post the picture at all. I will post and it won’t appear in my timeline, or the link will appear but there won’t be a picture there. I will try and post again, and it will say that it looks very similar to a picture already in my stream…even though it’s not there. UGHHH!!!

Have you considered linking your Tumble to your Twitter account and posting pics to Twitter via Tumblr (updating both at the same time).
Post.ly also have the same kind of service.
