We all know Freshpair, right? If you don’t know them and you’re an underwear lover, you really should check them out – for a few reasons.
1) they have an amazing selection of brands, styles and colours
2) their customer service is great and shipping is quick and easy
3) they started National Underwear Day – do we need to say more?
4) they’ve recently started the Underwear Club
I was intrigued when I was on the Freshpair site a few weeks ago and a little pop up popped up talking about the club. I clicked on the link to check out the details. There are a few other sites that have a “club” type service. Some are monthly. I know that Alpha and Omega and Andrew Christian have a monthly club experience, I have yet to try either. I think one of the things about the Freshpair club that drew me in was that it was quarterly. Once every 3 months I would get a new shipment of three pair of underwear – the latest styles and trends.
Signing up is easy. First you pick your desired style, right now the options are boxer briefs, trunks and briefs. Next you pick your size. Then you’re taken to the check out page where you fill in your details and learn more about the club. There were a few things I liked, it was a flat fee every 3 months, you got 3 styles. You would be notified before shipment and you could opt to not get the next quarter’s selection. You can also go in and change your style preference at any point in time. Meaning that after two quarters of briefs, if I wanted a change, I could log in and switch to trunks and that is what I would get for the next quarter. Options! Great! Love it!
I signed up. There was nothing to really lose. I was only paying for the 3 pair of undies I was getting for the first quarter, not the whole year. It was a win-win, not a maybe in my book. I got an email notifying me of my first shipment and what would be included. They weren’t kidding – they really were including recent style options. According to the email, my first shipment would include the Tommy John Sport briefs in blue (win), the 2xist Brite Range Ultra Contour Pouch no Show Brief in blue (win) and the Calvin Klein CK Bold Limited Edition Hip Brief in green. I was excited. I had wanted to try Tommy John and the CK Bold Limited Edition brief looked hot. There was a bit of a hiccup with my order, for whatever reason and a pair of CK One Micro Hip Briefs from the clearance section replaced the CK Bold. Was a little disappointed in that. I reached out to Freshpair and that was immediately corrected and I got a pair of Cin2 briefs that won’t be out until the Fall. Super excited!
I wanted to know more about the club though, so I reached out to our contact at Freshpair and got an exclusive little Q&A about the club:
Undies101: How did the idea of the Underwear Club come about?
Freshpair: We had been developing the Freshpair Subscriptions Program, which answers the question of necessity, but many of our customers love underwear as much – or nearly as much – as we do. The Underwear Club combines function with fashion, so not only is your underwear drawer updated with fresh items, it also keeps our true underwear fanatics on trend with the latest men’s underwear styles.
Undies101: Why did you decide to launch it?
Freshpair: To fill a void. There are a few underwear of the month clubs around, but none that really met the potential we saw. The Underwear Club is for men who frequently scout, shop, and must have the latest in men’s underwear trends. You aren’t just getting new styles, you’re getting them at the very beginning of the season when they’ve just landed in our warehouse. Plus, it’s exciting – a bit like sending a sexy, stylish surprise to yourself every season.
Undies101: Who makes the selections – are there different teams for boxer briefs, trunks and briefs or the same team for all?
Freshpair: All of the Freshpair Underwear Club selections are made by our Men’s Buying Team. Depending on which silhouette you select, our experts will handpick the most anticipated styles, colors, patterns, and fabrics from a variety of top brands.
Undies1101: How are the selections made – are they different for each person in the club or are the briefs, for example, the same three briefs for every person enrolled in briefs? Freshpair: Our Buying Team chooses 3-6 styles per silhouette based on trends from our top brands that season. Currently, most of our customers who sign up for the briefs will get the same 3 briefs. Eventually it will become more varied.
Undies 101: Right now you offer the club in briefs, trunks and boxer briefs – are they any plans to expand the selection to include jockstraps and thongs or maybe a random selection of all the choices?
Freshpair: Originally we offered thongs as an option, but it wasn’t as well received as briefs, boxer briefs, and trunks, so we decided to exclude it from the club. That doesn’t mean it won’t become an option again after the Club has had some time to grow and mature with the current selection.
