You know, in case you got hit by that elusive bus. Moms everywhere would be mortified to learn that if you did get hit by the bus, your underwear wouldn’t be clean, but, I digress. What if you didn’t have a pair of clean underwear? What if you were one of the more than 670,000 people in America right now that are classified as homeless? What if having a clean pair of underwear was one of life’s biggest luxuries? I know that many of you have given to charity, and I know that many of you have even donated items to homeless shelters over time. What did you donate? If you’re like me, toiletries, clean towels, hats, gloves and scarves. I thought that is what was needed, and it is. But there are more basic needs too…like having a clean pair of underwear.
The boys at Justus Clothing got that and developed the 1-4-1 program. For every item you order on their website, they will donate one pair of clean underwear to a homeless shelter. There is a list of shelters that they work with, and more information on the program here.
I read about this program the other day, immediately after reading this article about funding for homeless shelters in NYC being cut, and how that would affect LGBT youth. Everything seemed to hit home all at the same time.
The great part about the program at Justus Clothing is that you don’t have to do anything more than you are already doing – buy underwear (or any of their other great clothes, but this blog is about underwear) online and they will donate one pair of clean underwear for every item you buy. It couldn’t be any easier. You don’t have to trek out in the cold to deliver anything, you can sit in the comfort of your warm home, in your underwear even, and order some new undies for your buns and KNOW that you’re giving back something that is vitally needed. It’s easy to forget how quickly these programs are cut and downsized in economic times like these, it’s easy to not give and blame the economy…there are no excuses here. All you have to do is something I KNOW all of you will be doing anyway – ordering underwear. Come on, they have hot styles and designs, their stuff is wicked comfortable, very affordable…and you know you’re going to order some for your other half or yourself anyway. Give back whilst you do.
I don’t get on my soapbox that often here, but this one hit home and I wanted to do everything I could to help spread the word, and hopefully help the boys at Justus donate some more underwear to those truly in need!
