I missed the big celebration in NY today…but I got to experience my first San Fran pride. I have to say, I’m a fan. Their parade is about the same, as far as parade’s go…the same marchers, the same floats, etc. Their festival afterwards was amazing…huge, even. It stretched for blocks. There are every type of people and body shape. I noticed more straight people partaking of the festivities here than I have have ever noticed at NY Pride. What also really struck me is how the entire city embraces pride. It’s in the civic center – right in the heart of downtown. There are PRIDE posters all over the city – all over and pride flags too. There are stores that are decked out in their rainbow finest…not just in the Castro. San Fran is a city that embraces and owns it’s PRIDE celebration, it doesn’t shy away from it and keep it tucked into a corner.
